Special exhibition at the Swiss National Museum in Zurich

The Celtic site of La T̬ne on lake Neuch̢tel was discovered as early as 1857. Over 3000 objects were found Рweapons, tools, animal and human bones Рwhich immediately attracted the attention of the scientists of that time and stimulated their imagination. Then in 1880, remains of a wooden bridge came to light.

The mystery of this archaeological site still remains unsolved today. What was La Tène? A settlement? A cultic site? An arsenal? A place of human sacrifice? What happened there 2200 years ago? How is this unique site interpreted by present day scientists?

This special exhibition provides the visitor with an in-depth overview of the present state of scientific research. Significant finds from the first excavations - including animal and human bones, as well as sketches and drawings on Celtic bridge engineering - give an overwhelming insight into the world of the Celts.

An exhibition of the Museum Schwab in Biel/Bienne in collaboration with the Swiss National Museum in Zurich.
